Darwin traveled from England by request of the the queen of England to survey the coastline of South America. For 5 years he and his crew traveled in a ship, studying the coastline of South America. They collected specimens and samples, drew pictures and wrote in journals documenting everything they saw. Darwin eventually made his way to the Galapagos Islands and it was there that his research took a turn, as he noticed similarities between mainland animals and plants and those that were on this secluded group of islands. This new research led to his Theory of Evolution by means of Natural Selection.
